The Pakula Full 60 Degree Shackle Rig was developed by Peter Pakula during the early days of trolling lures for Blue Marlin on Australia’s East Coast. At that time, various lures, including Pakula prototypes, were tested daily. This required a rig that could be swiftly transferred between lures while allowing maximum lure action.
Due to infrequent strikes, it was crucial that the rig provided optimal hook-up rates. This rig met these needs so effectively that only minor modifications have been made to current rigs.
A few sets of hooks suffice for multiple lures. Maintaining a few sets of hooks in sharp and clean condition is straightforward for use across a full lure collection.
The Pakula Shackle Rig ensures hooks align with the lure’s center, preventing line twist. The hooks swing freely, allowing the lure to perform optimally without hindrance or keeling effects. This maximizes the hooks’ chances of successful engagement as they operate independently.
We recommend setting the hooks at 60 degrees. In this setup, both hooks travel with their points upward in a slight “V” formation, functioning as a rudder.
